National Conference President and ex-Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah, vehemently condemned the terror strike in Pahalgam on Monday and requested stringent actions so that such attacks don't happen in the future.
Abdullah expressed deep remorse for the continued violence by Pakistan, pointing out that such atrocities are "murder of humanity." He made it very clear that these kinds of actions would never push India towards Pakistan, claiming that the rejection of the two-nation theory in 1947 is still intact. He emphasized the unity of India's plural communities, asserting that Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians are all one. He claimed, "We will respond to this aggression with strength and unity," further claiming these attacks would only strengthen India.
Farooq Abdullah, a former advocate of dialogue with Pakistan, questioned how one can justify dialogue if innocent lives are lost. He was with the grieving families and said that the nation now demands more than symbolic actions, like the Balakot strike. He highlighted that practical action is needed so such tragedies never recur.
Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had also condemned the attack in a special session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. He talked about the unity of the nation to condemn the attack, saying that citizens of the entire country, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, are united in their outrage. He conceded that even though these kinds of incidents have occurred earlier as well, the pain of loss is no different.
The Pahalgam attack has brought the Jammu and Kashmir people, and the country in general, into mourning, with leaders calling for quick and effective action to end violence.
