"After the Jahangirpuri incidents, efforts are on to disturb the eternal social harmony of the country. Hence, the time has come for the implementation of NRC in the country. I believe it is a matter of discussion from 'Sadak' to 'Sansad' (Road to Parliament)," Singh said in a video statement and a tweet on Thursday.

Sources in the Delhi BJP said that a similar encroachment removal drive will be carried out in other parts of the city in the coming days. "We had received the go ahead from the BJP central leadership for the anti-encroachment drive in Jahangirpuri. Now, the other two municipal corporations, East and South, will also be urged to remove encroachments by Bangladeshis and Rohingyas in the coming days," they said.

The Trinamool, however, denies that Sheikh was involved with the party in any way. Leader of Opposition in Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari claims that Sheikh was not only a close associate of Trinamool leadership in East Midnapore district, but also associated in an attack on his vehicle on May 2, 2021 immediately after the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.

The Opposition also asked the Chief Minister to address the pressing concerns of farmers, who are seeking compensation on account of low wheat yields. Joining the issue, newly-appointed state Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring targeted Mann over the Centre's interfering in the state's law and order matters in the context of the Punjab Governor's visits to the border areas.

Delhi Police on Wednesday detained around 70 people for creating ruckus outside the residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal here. The protest was spearheaded by the Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha over the Chief Minister's recent remarks in the Assembly on 'The Kashmir Files' movie that were deemed as "against the Kashmiri Pandit" community among the saffron clans.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Thursday that if people are so eager to watch 'The Kashmir Files', they should ask director Vivek Agnihotri to put the film on YouTube. "Where is the question of making it (the film) tax-free," Kejriwal asked, while reacting to the demand for making 'The Kashmir Files' tax-free, during the ongoing Assembly session

Congress General Secretary Ajay Maken said, "The consensus is that along with being administratively beneficial, the unification of the municipal corporations will improve its financial position. The Union government should have brought this Bill at least six months earlier to prevent any delay in MCD elections."

"With the unification and the proposed 'One Mayor' for Delhi, the office will regain its lost glory and the person occupying it will once again receive the stature of 'first citizen' of the national capital. Earlier, the Mayor of Delhi used to receive foreign dignitaries at the airport as the first citizen of the city. After trifurcation, the office of Mayor lost its importance," Arya said.

After its historic win in the Punjab Assembly polls, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is now focusing on the Delhi municipal elections. With its focus on sanitation, the party has put up various posters across the city to woo the public and sweep the civic body elections. After it suffered a setback due to the postponement of the MCD elections for which the BJP is being held responsible, the party even appealed to the top court to not defer the civic polls.

Lashing out at Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his party, AAP, Union minister and senior BJP leader Smriti Irani on Friday said that a party which gets less votes than NOTA in Uttar Pradesh is claiming there is a wave in its favour.
