BJP to begin 2024 preparations in Assam, visits by Shah & Nadda in May

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president J.P. Nadda are scheduled to visit the state in May for meetings with party workers. The BJP has set a target to win 12 of the 14 Lok Sabha seats. According to sources, the party however may face a stiff challenge in four constituencies -- Dhubri, Kaliabor, Barpeta, and Nagaon.

Assam CM gets threat from SFJ's Pannu, police register case

On Sunday, a section of journalists in Assam received calls from different mobile numbers, and on connecting, a message purportedly in Pannu's voice issued threats to Sarma. The caller said: "Pro-Khalistan supporters imprisoned in Assam have been tortured. Listen very carefully, CM Sarma, the fight is between pro-Khalistan Sikhs and the Indian regime."
Himanta Biswa Sarma threatens to lodge defamation suit against CM Kejriwal

Sarma, on Friday, also threatened to file a defamation case against the Delhi Chief Minister. The Chief Minister asserted that there is no pending case against him, neither before any court in the country nor in any agency. He asked, "Which case is there against me? I challenge Arvind Kejriwal to show a single case filed against me."
No change in number of constituencies in Assam after delimitation: CEC

The CEC added, "In connection with the ongoing delimitation exercise, we held discussions with political parties and other organisations in the last two days. We also met around 60 civil groups and organisations. In the delimitation exercise, we will do our best to take into account all of the political parties' and organisations' suggestions.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while interacting with mediapersons in the national capital, said, "It is an exercise being carried out by the police forces of Assam and Punjab. Once when there was a crisis in Assam, we had sent a few arrested persons to Bhagalpur in Bihar. So I think it is absolutely normal, and I should not comment anything more on this."
