The political landscape of Assam witnessed a significant development as Rana Goswami, the working president of the Assam Congress, tendered his resignation from the party on Wednesday. Media reports indicate his imminent switch to the BJP in the near future.
Addressing K C Venugopal, the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, Goswami conveyed his decision to step down from his role as the working president and relinquish his active membership within the Congress party. In a formal letter, he articulated, "I beg to state that I am tendering my resignation as the working president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and as active member of the Indian National Congress,"
It's speculated that Goswami's alignment with the BJP will materialize on March 4, with plans for a meeting scheduled with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the same day. Goswami, having served three terms in the Assam legislative assembly under the Congress banner, initially clinched victory in the 2006 elections from the Jorhat constituency.
Previously, Chief Minister Sarma expressed openness to welcoming Goswami into the BJP fold, affirming that his entry would be embraced warmly by the party.
