The Assam Chief Minister on Sunday tweeted: "Delhi CM suo moto offered to buy PPE kits from anywhere without tender. Why? Does his Deputy CM think the CM is corrupt as he asked someone to arrange PPE kits from somewhere immediately, and said that Delhi Govt will buy them ? No reference to any tender etc."
Assam govt denies CM's family's involvement in PPE kits supply 'scam'

The opposition Congress, Trinamool Congress, Raijor Dal and Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and other political parties have been demanding a Supreme Court monitored probe or by the central agencies in the matter. Assam's Information and Public Relations Minister Pijush Hazarika, who is also the state government's spokesman, said there was no irregularity in the supply of PPE kits and no member of Sarma's family was involved.
Assam CM gave PPE kits' contracts to kin during Covid, alleges Sisodia

Addressing a press conference, Sisodia said Sarma, the then health minister, had given contracts to firms of his wife and son's business partners to supply PPE kits above market rates in 2020. Referring to a media report, the Deputy CM said that while the Assam government procured PPE kits for Rs 600 a piece from other companies, Sarma gave urgent supply orders to the firms of his wife and son's business partners for Rs 990 a piece taking advantage of the emergency situation.

Assam court grants bail to Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani

Mevani was again arrested by the Barpeta police on April 25 on different charges, including "outraging the modesty of a lady police officer" soon after the Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Kokrajhar district granted him bail. Mevani's lawyer Angshuman Bora on Friday said that his (Mevani's) bail application was granted by the Barpeta District Sessions court on a personal bond and surety of Rs 1,000.

Jignesh Mevani re-arrested in Assam soon after court grants bail

The police from Barpeta district arrested Mevani again, but refused to disclose in which case the Gujarat MLA was re-arrested. The Gujarat legislator was first arrested on Wednesday night in connection with an "objectionable" comment against the Prime Minister he made through a tweet on April 18. Mevani was flown to Guwahati on Thursday morning from where he was taken to Kokrajhar by road.

The saffron party won 58 seats, while one each went in favour of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP). According to the trends and results of the Assam State Election Commission, the BJP (52 wards) and its ally Asom Gana Parishad (six wards) won in 58 wards, including the three which were earlier elected unopposed by the saffron party candidates.
