Sarma said that Uddhav Thakeray might have lost the party symbol for bringing God into a political controversy. Earlier, the Assam government claimed that the Dakini Hill is the site of the sixth Jyotirlinga, which irked the Maharashtra Opposition, including Uddhav Thackrey's Shiv Sena and other parties.

While speaking at a function held celebrate Bose's birth anniversary on Monday in Guwahati, Sarma said that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as a personality symbolised patriotism and nationalism of the highest order and that his contributions towards the nation's freedom struggle were immense and incomparable.

Speaking to mediapersons in Delhi, Sarma said, "He (Jiban Singha) has joined the mainstream a few days back... Let him take rest for some time then he will start discussions with the government." Singha, along with nine members of his outfit, surrendered before the security forces in the Longwa region in Nagaland's Mon district last Friday. He is expected to join the peace talks with the Central government soon.

In the golden era of Congress in the state, Roy was a very powerful leader. He had a close relationship with the former Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi. It is widely believed that he has very good equations with Himanta Biswa Sarma too. Though many in the BJP objected to Roy's inclusion in the party in 2019, people foresee that he could join due to Sarma's backing.

The Chief Minister said that the government will look into it and will initiate actions if any unlawful things were done by the officers. "But this does not mean that the eviction will stop. Wherever any illegal encroachment is found, we will do an eviction. This government is not here to sit idle. For 365 days up to five years, we will continue our work," he added.

Although Assam does not have any major elections slated for next year, the political environment is hot with Sarma at the centre. Three northeastern states -- Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland -- will go to the polls in early 2023. However, Assam will remain the epicentre of these state elections as Sarma, chairman of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), will be the primary pulling force for the BJP's election machinery in these states.

A woman died after a man cut off her breasts, hands, legs and ears with a sharp weapon at a public market. The incident took place on Saturday at the Pirpainti market in Bhagalpur district.
