CM Sarma Appeals to Rahul Gandhi to Avoid Visit to Sankardeva's Birthplace During Ram Temple Consecration in Assam

Sarma mentioned that commandos will be deployed along sensitive routes in minority-dominated areas that Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra plans to take on January 22.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to reconsider his visit to the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardeva at Batadrava on January 22. Sarma emphasized that there should be no competition between the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and the visit to the revered site of Srimanta Sankardeva.

Sarma mentioned that commandos will be deployed along sensitive routes in minority-dominated areas that Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra plans to take on January 22. The chief minister expressed concerns about potential law and order situations in sensitive areas like Morigaon, Jagiroad, and Nellie, chosen by the Congress for the route.

"We will request Rahul Gandhi not to visit Batadrava on Monday during the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple as it will reflect Assam in the wrong light. He can go after the consecration ceremony without creating unnecessary competition, which will be sad for Assam," Sarma stated during a press conference.

Srimanta Sankardeva holds immense cultural and religious significance in Assam, being a saint-scholar, social-religious reformer, poet, and playwright from the 15th-16th century. The chief minister urged caution in choosing routes through sensitive areas, directing District Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to enhance patrolling and maintain strict vigilance to prevent any potential law and order issues.
