Sarma mentioned that commandos will be deployed along sensitive routes in minority-dominated areas that Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra plans to take on January 22.

Several boats ferried the Congress leader and his party colleagues from Nimatighat in Jorhat district to Aphalamukh Ghat in Majuli district. Special ferries were arranged to transport some vehicles across the Brahmaputra River.

The offer is an invitation to stay in the state for a week or 10 days with the promise of safety while Baruah is here. Assam CM Sarma said, “Paresh Baruah is a smart, educated individual. I'm hoping he'll agree to have civil discussions when I extend the invitation.” Justifying the unusual invitation, the Chief Minister argued that Assam has changed a lot since the turbulent times of insurgency.

“Heights of duplicity! You abuse the judiciary when you get convicted, and when the same judiciary grants you bail, you say justice has prevailed,” the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted. Taking a jibe at Sarma, Congress General Secretary communication in-charge Jairam Ramesh said, "Is the Assam CM having a surplus of sour grapes in his mouth? His new mentor, Modi, gave us Skill India, Start-up India and Digital India - all new names for ongoing programmes. He's asked CMs of different states to work together as 'Team India'. He even made an appeal to Vote India."
