More rains for coastal Tamil Nadu, cold wave to continue in NW India: IMD
"A cyclonic circulation lies over southwest Bay of Bengal, off south Sri Lanka coast at middle tropospheric level. Under its influence, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall activity is very likely to continue over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on Sunday and isolated heavy rainfall over the same region during subsequent 24 hours and decrease thereafter," the IMD said.
PM to participate in 'Modi Pongal' event in Madurai on Jan 12
The event is part of the Pongal festival being organised by the state unit of the BJP. Modi will be in the state to inaugurate 11 new medical colleges in Tamil Nadu at Virudhunagar on January 12, and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will also be present in the programme. 9 killed in house collapse due to heavy rain in Tamil Nadu
The deceased include four women and four children and one man. The house collapsed when the family was fast asleep. Fire and Rescue personnel and the police rushed to the spot and took out those injured. Eight people were injured in the accident and are being given medical aid at the Peranmbet Government hospital.

"Once a representation is given in English, it is the duty of the Union government to reply in English only," it said. The direction by a division bench of the High Court's Madurai bench comprising of Justices N. Kirubakaran and Justice M. Duraiswamy came on a Public Interest Litigation filed by Madurai MP, Su Venkitasan, seeking English alone be used in all communications between the Centre and state governments.

UP, TN defence corridors get Rs 3,342 cr investment so far: Govt
In a written reply to Biju Janata Dal Rajya Sabha member Sujeet Kumar, Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt said the investments of Rs 20,000 crore are planned in both defence corridors by 2024. "The progress is reviewed regularly at apex level," he said, adding that so far, investment of approximately Rs 3,342 crore have been made in both the corridors by public as well private sector companies.
