TN BJP chief a favourite of Central leadership despite discontent in state unit

However, the stiff resistance from the faction led by former Chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami seems to be a major obstacle in her entry to the party. She has, according to sources close to her, met senior functionaries of the "powerful" Thevar community which she belongs to. As per the sources, the meeting was held at her T Nagar residence and the community elders have promised to pull the strings for her re-entry into the party.

The BJP leader said that the party would oppose any forceful imposition of Hindi in Tamil Nadu. BJP state president K. Annamalai had also on Tuesday said that the state BJP would not allow the imposition of Hindi language on the people of the state. The one-man commission headed by retired Justice Arumughaswamy was constituted by Panneerselvam -- when he was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 2017, a year after the passing away of Jayalalithaa.
