RSS holds rally in 45 Tamil Nadu locations, Union Minister Murugan participates in Chennai

The RSS leadership had fought a legal battle after the DMK government had banned the regular annual route march which was to be held on October 2, 2022. The Police Department informed the RSS that the march could not be allowed as after the ban on Islamist organisation Popular Front of India (PFI) by the Central government, there could be attacks on the route march of the RSS.

"The chart provided by the state government shows that the members of the respondent organisation (RSS) were the victims in many of those cases and that they were not the perpetrators. Therefore, it is not possible for us to find fault with the order passed by the learned judge either in the main writ petitions or in the review applications. In a statement on Sunday, the Tamil Nadu government said that the Chief Minister had written a letter to the Union Home minister stating that in the notification for the written test to the recruitment for CRPF, it was mentioned that the test could be taken in English and Hindi. The state government in the statement said.

Annamalai's "interpretation" of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement as it had "some nuances". Even as Union Minister of state for Information and Broadcasting and BJP's former state chief, L. Murugan has said that the alliance with the AIADMK would continue, Annamalai said that as of now the alliance was intact but elections for 2024 Lok Sabha are far off.

However, K. Annamalai said, "Nothing can be said now that the AIADMK- BJP alliance is final and certain. An alliance is like water and nothing is carved on stone, it can change at any time. Notably, the only MP for the AIADMK from Tamil Nadu is O.P. Raveendranathan from Theni constituency who is also the son of OPS. The Thevar community calls the shots in South Tamil Nadu and has been a traditional vote bank of the AIADMK in the state. Sources in the Thevar community told IANS that the community elders have met Sasikala and OPS separately twice since February 2023 and a joint meeting was held in March.
TN BJP president makes U-turn, says not empowered to take decision on alliance

Annamalai has earlier been vociferous for contesting the 2024 general elections independently and without any alliance with the AIADMK. Without a Dravidian party as an alliance partner, it would be difficult for the BJP to win polls and as far as the national leadership of the saffron party is concerned, it needs more seats from south India for which an alliance with the AIADMK was crucial.
