In a letter addressed to Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the group said that since implementing these provisions would require structural changes in organisations and businesses, “they are likely to face significant amount of challenges during the course of such transition”.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri gave a brief demonstration of how the new feature will work in a video shared to his broadcast channel. "We're testing a way for you to turn photos into custom stickers to use in reels and stories. You can create stickers from your own photos in your camera roll, or from eligible images you see on Instagram," Mosseri said.

As part of its expansion, Meta is adding the ability to disable this kind of tracking on Instagram, so users can check what businesses are sharing information with Meta, disconnect specific activities or clear the information that has been collected. This feature, known as Activity Off-Meta Technologies, is now available in the platform's Accounts Center.

The new feature called "mute assist" automatically mutes or lets users quickly mute people they don't know who use profanity and potentially offensive words.

“Join us in our early days as we grow to 10 million users. Each organisation now manages verifications for their own journalists too. For example, a newsroom can verify an affiliated journalist through a subdomain like @name.newsroom.com,” the social network said in a statement.

The potential feature was discovered by an app developer who shared screenshots of the feature that a Meta employee had originally posted.

The government released draft guidelines last month to curb “dark patterns” used by online platforms. These dark patterns mislead people into doing something they did not wish to do, such as paying for items or services they did not intend to buy.

Between August 1-31, Facebook received 25,049 reports through the Indian grievance mechanism, and said that it provided tools for users to resolve their issues in 2,701 cases.

If users in Europe want to access both Instagram and Facebook, they can get the combo for $17 per month, reports The Wall Street Journal.
