Meta to allow for ads in 'Instagram search results' via its Marketing API

With this new addition, users will be able to update their app to enable their clients to create and preview ads in Instagram search results via API. "Starting today, we now allow for ads in Instagram search results via the Instagram Marketing API. This new ads placement will be available on all current Marketing API versions, and does not require an upgrade," Meta said in a blogpost on Wednesday.

According to reports, Avinash Pant, director of marketing for India, Saket Jha Saurabh, director of media partnerships, and Amrita Mukherjee, director, legal, Meta India were among those laid off in India. Moneycontrol first reported about Mukherjee, who was Hotstar's head of legal before joining Meta, being asked to go.

These job cuts were part of the company's so-called "Year of Efficiency," in which Meta is being restructured to cut costs, reports TechCrunch. The third round of layoffs affected Meta's business departments. Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in March that the company will cut 10,000 jobs across two rounds of layoffs in late April and late May.

The Irish watchdog said that Meta violated the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which came into force on May 25, 2018. The Wall Street Journal was first to report about the landmark penalty on Meta. The ruling applies only to Facebook and not Instagram and WhatsApp.

As per the data by layoffs tracking site Layoffs.fyi, 695 tech companies have shown the doors to around 1.98 lakh employees so far this year. In comparison, 1,046 tech companies laid off more than 1.61 lakh employees in 2022. In January alone this year, close to 1 lakh tech employees lost jobs globally, dominated by companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Salesforce and others.
