Delhi HC junks plea against Asthana's appointment as Delhi Police chief

Asthana had told the Delhi High Court that the PIL challenging his appointment is either personal vendetta or a proxy war under the cloak of public interest litigation. He contended that there is a sustained social media campaign against him and the plea before the high court was an abuse of process of law. An intervention application filed by NGO 'Centre for Public Interest Litigation' through advocate Prashant Bhushan also challenged Asthana's appointment as the Delhi Police chief.
Illegal phone-tap case: Mumbai Police summons CBI chief for probe

Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim convicted in disciple's murder case

Ram Rahim Singh is currently serving a 20 years' rigorous imprisonment for the rape of two women followers at Rohtak's Sunaria jail. He was also convicted for life for the murder of Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chattrapati. Apart from Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the CBI court on Friday also convicted four others -- Krishan Lal, Sabdil Singh, Jasbir Singh and Avtar Singh -- in the same case.
CBI gets more complaints from victims of Bengal post poll violence

The central agency wanted to get the list because it was receiving a series of complaints from several people who are not on the NHRC list submitted to the High Court. The NHRC in their report to the Calcutta High Court had mentioned 29 cases of murder and 12 cases of rape and sexual harassment in post-poll violence in the state.
Partha Chatterjee called by CBI in I-Core chit fund scam

It has been learnt that the CBI has found direct relation of Chatterjee with I-Core group and they want to interrogate him on the basis of that. Sources in CBI revealed that the premier investigation agency has found a video clip where Chatterjee was found with I-Core chief Anukul Maity on the stage in a program and Chatterjee was heard speaking in favour of I-Core.
CBI files case over JEE (Mains) scam, raids 20 locations

The agency also carried out searches at around 20 locations in various cities including Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru, Jamshedpur, and other places. It has registered a case against a private company and others including its Directors and three employees, private persons (conduits), and other unknown persons.

The raids took place in New Delhi and Allahabad while the arrest took place early Thursday, hours after the CBI had swooped on Deshmukh's son-in-law Gaurav Chaturvedi and his Nagpur-based lawyer Anand Daga late on Wednesday evening, from Worli in Mumbai. The Chaturvedi-Daga duo was detained and their statements recorded till the wee hours when the complicity of an inside hand, the CBI's own official -- a Sub-Inspector Abhishek Tripathi -- was also confirmed.

CBI files 11 cases in connection with post-poll violence in Bengal

To probe the cases, the Centre has provided CRPF security cover to the CBI teams amid apprehension of locals and the state administration disrupting the investigation. The agency said that so far it has registered eleven separate cases after being handed over the probe by the Calcutta High Court. The first case was earlier registered at the Gangnapur poice station in Nadia district on May 3 against 12 accused persons and unknown others charged with attacking a victim with bamboo sticks and choppers.
