CBI registers case on ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan 'framing'

A CBI spokesperson here said said the agency has registered the case on the Supreme Court's directive in its April 15 order. The official said that a case against ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan had been registered by Kerala Police on October 20, 1994 against a Maldivian national under the Foreigners Act on the allegations of overstaying in India after expiry of visa.

A CBI source related to the probe told IANS, "The CBI has registered an FIR in connection with the corruption allegations against Deshmukh, and searches are underway at various places." The source said that the agency has named Anil Deshmukh and several others in the FIR.

In an affidavit filed in the top court, the Centre said: "The Secretary (DoPT) contacted the leader of the single largest opposition party in the House of the People (Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury). The Secretary (DoPT) was informed by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury that he would not be available to participate in the meeting till May 2, 2021."
Ex-CBI Director Ranjit Sinha passes away

A CBI source said that Sinha, a 1974 batch IPS officer, breathed his last at his residence here on Friday night around 4 a.m. According to senior CBI officials, Sinha's death is believed to be due to Covid-19-related complications. It is understood that he was confirmed positive for coronavirus on Thursday night. The 1974 batch IPS officer was CBI Chief from December 2012 till December 2014 for a period of two years.
CBI arrests senior passport assistant for taking bribe

A CBI official here said that the agency arrested Kumar for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from the complainant.The agency had registered a case on a complaint alleging that the official had demanded a bribe for issuance of his passport in January 2020.
CBI questions Bakura SP Rao, Anup Majhi in coal smuggling case

A CBI official related to probe told IANS, "We are questioning Majhi and Rao separately at our office here."The CBI is questioning Majhi for the seventh time in connection with the case, while Rao has been called for the first time to record his statement.
