Nirav Modi, who allegedly cheated Punjab National Bank (PNB) of over Rs 11,000 crore, is likely to be extradited soon to India from the UK as he lost his appeal in the High Court. Sources told IANS that Vijay Nair was arrested from Delhi and now the CBI will seek his custodial remand. Nair, the former CEO of Only Much Louder, an entertainment and event management firm, and one of the prime suspects in the liquor scam, had gone to London. He returned to join the probe and was placed under arrest.

Pandey was already in judicial custody and was lodged in Delhi's Tihar jail. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate, who also have filed the charge-sheet in the matter. Now, the CBI have arrested him and also moved a remand plea before the Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court which sent Pandey to a five-day CBI custody.

Manish Sisodia was also present at the bank's branch along with his wife. Heavy police personnel were deployed outside the bank to avoid any untoward incident. "CBI didn't find anything during raid at my home. They won't find anything in lockers too. We are ready for it and are giving support to the CBI," Sisodia said in his tweet.

Similarly, departmental proceedings are also pending against several officers and employees associated with the CBI. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his speech from the Red Fort on Independence Day, had described corruption as the biggest problem of the country while making an appeal to end it soon.

The decision has been conveyed to the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary (vigilance), whose inquiry report into the excise scam formed the basis of LG's recommendation for suspension. The suspension came two days after the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, V.K. Saxena, approved the initiation of disciplinary proceedings for 'serious lapses' against 11 officials of the excise department in connection with the excise policy 2021-22. Last Friday, the CBI had raided Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia's residence in connection with the alleged irregularities in Delhi's excise policy.
