CBI arrests GAIL director in bribery case

"The GAIL official, E.S. Ranganathan, the Director (Marketing), has been arrested by us for allegedly taking bribes from businessmen for issuing discount orders on purchasing of petro products. Five persons were arrested yesterday," said a senior CBI official.

The six convicted are identified as impersonators Mohd. Imran, and Rajesh Prasad, candidates Deepak Prajapati, and Jetendra Kumar Rajput, and middlemen Suresh Kumar Patel and Vedratan. The agency had registered the case against the accused on the allegations of impersonation in Pre Medical Test (PMT-2010) at Govt. PG College, Guna (Madhya Pradesh) which was conducted by Vyapam.

Indrani Mukerjea, being kept at Byculla jail of Mumbai since 2015, has sent the letter from the jail and the letter was written based on the input shared by her cell inmate, ANI reported quoting its sources. INX Media case: HC junks CBI plea against order allowing inspection of documents by Chidambaram

A single bench of Justice Mukta Gupta dismissed the CBI's plea seeking to set aside a special judge's March 5 order that allowed the inspection of documents kept in the record room by the accused persons or their advocate. "The petition is dismissed," the Court said. Earlier, the judgment in the matter was reserved on August 27 this year. Advocate Anupam S. Sharma appeared on behalf of the CBI while senior counsels Sidharth Luthra, Pramod Kumar Dubey, and Siddharth Aggarwal represented the Chidambarams.

As per the August 19 order of the High Court, the probe agency has taken over the investigation of the case related to the alleged murder of Biswajit Mahesh. This case was earlier registered at Sabang police station in Paschim Medinipur on May 5. On the night of May 4, Mahesh was allegedly attacked by the accused with an iron rod and sword. The victim has been found in a pond and was taken to Sabang Hospital where he was declared dead.

The CBI asked court for the death penalty to the self-claimed godman under the section 302 of Indian penal code in the murder case of Ranjit Singh, the former security manager. Ram Raheem, appearing via video conferencing from Rohtak Jail, where he is serving his sentence in two cases of rapes and a murder case, pleaded for mercy. The other 4 accused in this case who got the punishment of life imprisonment were Krishan Lal, Jasbir Singh, Avtar Singh, and Sabdil, while the one accused in the case had already passed away in October 2020.
