Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag criticized Ishan Kishan's decision to leave the crease during the IPL 2025 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians when he was not out.
Sehwag referred to it as a 'brain-fade,' citing that Kishan should have waited for the umpire's decision. This occurred in the third over of SRH's innings when Kishan attempted to play a leg-side ball but missed it.
No grievance by the Mumbai Indians players, Kishan decided to walk off. There was subsequently found to be no advantage on replay, so he had made a mistake in leaving the field.
Sehwag in his remarks to Cricbuzz had stated, "Many times, the mind does not think properly in that moment. It was a brain fade. Stand still and wait for the umpire.". And besides, he's even being compensated for work. He continued, "Let him do his job. I just did not get this 'honesty.' Had there been an edge, it would have worked, because that would be the spirit of the game. But there was no edge; the umpire did not know and yet you walked off without question."
The match saw Sunrisers Hyderabad lose their sixth IPL 2025 game, with Mumbai Indians getting the better of them. Mumbai registered an easy win by seven wickets, with Rohit Sharma scoring his second consecutive half-century. Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav (40 not out) guided Mumbai through while chasing a paltry total of 143/8. Rohit scored 70 from 46 balls, bringing a quick end to the match in just 15.4 overs.
Before this, the Mumbai bowlers, Deepak Chahar (2/12) and Trent Boult (4/26), were in command, tearing the SRH batting line-up apart. The Sunrisers were reduced to 13/4 in the fifth over before Heinrich Klaasen (71 off 44 balls) and Abhinav Manohar (43 off 37 balls) tried to mount a comeback for the team.
