The NDA led in Bihar, winning a total of 30 Lok Sabha seats, followed by the INDIA bloc, which managed to clinch nine, and Congress' Rajesh Ranjan, also known as Pappu Yadav, securing the Purnea seat as an Independent candidate.
Of the NDA's 30 seats, BJP and JD-U won 12 seats each, the Chirag Paswan-led LJP-Ram Vilas (LJPRV) five, and Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) coalition partner one. On the other hand, RJD was able to secure four seats for the INDIA bloc, Congress three, and CPI-ML two. Pappu Yadav, who contested as an Independent, emerged victorious in one seat.
Both Chirag Paswan and his brother-in-law Arun Bharti defeated RJD candidates Shiv Chandra Ram and Archana Ravidas in Hajipur and Jamui respectively.
Two members of Lalu Prasad's family contested elections in Patliputra and Saran Lok Sabha constituencies. Lalu Prasad's eldest daughter Misa Bharti secured victory in Patliputra after having faced defeat twice against BJP's Ram Kripal Yadav. On the other hand, his second daughter Rohini Acharya had to face defeat by a margin of just 47,000 votes against sitting BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy in Saran.
Purnea saw a triangular contest with the candidature of Pappu Yadav, RJD's Bima Bharti, and JD-U's Santosh Kushwaha. Pappu Yadav, who had recently merged his party (JAP) with Congress, contested as an Independent as the Congress did not ally with him and he was adamant on contesting from Purnea. He defeated Kushwaha of JD-U by a margin of 23,847 votes, while Bharti of RJD came third.
Karakat also witnessed a triangular contest with the candidature of Bhojpuri film star Pawan Singh, who had been fielded by the CPI-ML, against BJP and CPI-ML candidates Rajiv Singh and Rajaram Singh Kushwaha respectively. Upendra Kushwaha, who contested as an NDA candidate, came third.
