'Poll defeat is collective responsibility', Shinde's Response to Fadnavis' Proposal for Deputy CM Change

Shinde stated that the election loss is a collective failure, and the collapse of the point of view should be carefully analyzed and assessed. However, even after all that, he noted that MahaYuti, despite the loss of some seats, secured over two lakh votes in Mumbai and added to the boost the support for voters. Shinde expressed his openness to discuss the matter with Fadnavis, adding that they have a lot of challenges and have to fight back hard.

After the disastrous defeat of MahaYuti in the state elections, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has shown his readiness to relinquish his ministerial responsibilities. In response, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated on Tuesday that he will discuss the resignation scenario with Fadnavis on Wednesday.

However, Shinde flatly rejected the proposal put forth by Fadnavis to resign from the state cabinet and stated that he is willing to move ahead with the challenges and to gear up preparations for the coming state Assembly elections in September and October. The Deputy Chief Minister is currently in Delhi to attend the NDA conference and has proposed to look after the election process in totality and stated his wish to be relieved from ministerial responsibilities.

Fadnavis was heard after the BJP met a disappointing performance in Maharashtra, winning only nine seats when compared to 23, the last time around, in 2019. Apart from that, the 17 seats brought home by the BJP-led MahaYuti failed to accomplish the "Mission 45 plus," whereas the Maha Vikas Aghadi won 30.

Shinde denied the opposition's content that constitutional changes can be seen and said that this is a temporary political move to deteriorate the position of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He reiterated the development issue of Modi and discussed the advancement that his government has achieved in Maharashtra in the last two years. The leader accepted the big challenge of the opposition's propaganda but stuck to his commitment to achieve developmental goals.
