In a shocking twist of fate, Tej Pratap Yadav — eldest son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav — is now gearing up to fly high, trading politics for a career in aviation.
The Directorate of Flight Training has officially included Tej Pratap in 18 successful candidates cleared for admission into a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) course.
He will soon proceed to training at the Bihar Aviation Institute, paving way for a fresh chapter in both his career goals and personal aspiration.
Sources close to the development indicate that his training will take off shortly after administrative procedures are carried out.
Tej Pratap, known for his distinctive style and unconventional presence in Bihar’s political scene, has often shown interest in aviation. His passion for flying, however, appears more than just symbolic.
Previous this year, while India was conducting a military operation against the Pahalgam terror attack, code-named 'Operation Sindoor,' Tej Pratap shared pictures on X (formerly Twitter) wearing a pilot uniform. His message stated that if his flying abilities would be of service to the nation, he was "prepared at all times" to serve.
The post unleashed criticism from all political corners, with many asking what his motive and timing were behind his public display. He then posted another message from within a cockpit, addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and voicing his readiness to serve and "protect Mother India."
Having cleared Private Pilot License (PPL) and CPL courses' required interviews and assessment, Tej Pratap is now free to commence commercial pilot training officially.
This decision has come during turmoil in his political life. Tej Pratap recently got expelled from the RJD and estranged from his own family after a controversial post about a woman named Anushka Yadav. The post, which soon became viral, resulted in a six-year ban on party activities and alienation from his father Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Tej Pratap has subsequently asserted that the Facebook update resulted from a case of hacking and had no personal role to play.
Today, in starting his aviation venture, Tej Pratap appears to be forging a parallel track outside politics — possibly a conscious move away from controversy and party bickering.
His foray into the aviation business is just another chapter in the constantly unfolding saga of the Yadav clan, all leading up to the pivotal Bihar Assembly elections towards the end of the year.
