Government Cancels UGC-NET June 18 Exam and Initiates CBI Investigation

In an official statement, the Ministry has said that inputs received from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) have indicated that the integrity of the test may have been compromised. Of late and more importantly, to maintain transparency and the sanctity of the exam, the Ministry has decided to cancel UGC-NET 2024. It has clarified that a fresh examination will be organized, details of which shall be announced separately. The matter has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a probe at the same time.

The Ministry of Education announced on Wednesday that the UGC-NET 2024, or University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test, held across different cities on Tuesday, stands cancelled due to apprehensions of possible compromises in the examination process. The National Testing Agency, NTA, conducted the UGC-NET in two shifts on June 18.

On another exam-related matter, the Ministry made it clear Wednesday night that there were no other grace marks-related issues regarding the NEET-UG 2024. It has called for a full report from the Economic Offences Unit of Bihar Police into the alleged irregularity that took place during the Patna examination. He assured GoI's commitment towards taking care of the security and integrity of examinations and the interests of students. It also threatened strict action against all those involved—the individual or institution—found involved.

"Further action will be taken on receipt of this report by the government. Government is committed to the sanctity of examination and protecting the interest of the students. It is reiterated that any individual/organisation found involved in this matter will face the strictest action," read the statement.
