Supreme Court reaffirmed its decision not to halt the admission counselling process for medical programs following the NEET UG 2024 examination, despite allegations of paper leaks and other irregularities.

During the session, a vacation bench led by Justice Vikram Nath was informed that the scorecards of 1,563 candidates, who had received compensatory marks due to a loss of time, had been revoked and annulled.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) counsel stated that these candidates might opt to take a re-test, likely scheduled for June 23, and emphasized that the original counselling schedule would remain unchanged since re-test results are expected by June 30.

The NTA also noted that the actual, unnormalized marks of the 1,563 candidates would be emailed to them. If any of these candidates decide against taking the re-test, their results based on the actual marks will stand as final. This was presented before the bench, which also included Justice Sandeep Mehta.

In light of this information, the Supreme Court decided to resolve the issue regarding the awarding of grace marks in the NEET UG exam.

However, it did issue a notice to the NTA and others seeking the canceling of the NEET exam conducted on May 5 in a petition. It was attached with other pending cases and the next hearing on it would be on July 8.

They also prayed for staying the declaration of results till such time the investigations with regard to paper leakage are complete.

Also, the petitions pray for a direction to the NTA to recall the results of May 5 examination and hold a fresh examination after issuing an appropriate public notice.
