UGC Withdraws 'De-reservation' Draft Guidelines from Website Amid Backlash
UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar clarified that the guidelines were removed because the feedback submission period had ended, not as a response to the controversy. He emphasized that there has been no de-reservation of reserved category positions in Central Educational Institutions (CEI) in the past, and there are no plans for such actions in the future.

Last year, the UGC had declared 21 universities as fake. The UGC stated that these institutions are not authorised to grant any degrees to students and alerted the students as well against taking admission in these institutions. UGC sends letter seeking appointment of teachers in state universities
UGC chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar told IANS on Friday that a letter has been written to all Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Education Secretaries and Secretaries of the Governors in this regard.

UGC asks universities to allow students to write exams in regional languages even if course is in English medium
The letter states, "Once teaching, learning, and assessment are conducted in local languages, student engagement will eventually increase, leading to a higher success rate. This will significantly strengthen efforts to achieve the target of enhancing the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in higher education from 27% to 50% by the year 2035."
