UGC declares 20 universities, including 8 in Delhi, as fake, cautions students to verify institutes

Last year, the UGC had declared 21 universities as fake. The UGC stated that these institutions are not authorised to grant any degrees to students and alerted the students as well against taking admission in these institutions. It strongly advised parents and students to cross-check the authenticity of universities before enrolling in any course.
UGC sends letter seeking appointment of teachers in state universities

UGC chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar told IANS on Friday that a letter has been written to all Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Education Secretaries and Secretaries of the Governors in this regard.
Attacks on NCERT by academicians unwarranted: UGC Chief

Taking a strong objection to the move, a total of 33 academicians from prestigious colleges across India, recently wrote a letter to NCERT Director D.P. Saklani seeking removal of their names from the textbooks as advisors. Meanwhile, as many as 107 professors, Vice Chancellors, Deans and teachers of different universities have come out in support of NCERT.
UGC asks universities to allow students to write exams in regional languages even if course is in English medium

The letter states, "Once teaching, learning, and assessment are conducted in local languages, student engagement will eventually increase, leading to a higher success rate. This will significantly strengthen efforts to achieve the target of enhancing the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in higher education from 27% to 50% by the year 2035."
Even universities not registered with NTA can now access CUET scores

Last year, CUET was conducted for the first time. A total of 14.9 lakh students had registered themselves for the exam, which took place in five weeks in 450 centres. This year, more than 15 lakh students are expected to appear in this examination, due to which the National Testing Agency (NTA), which will be conducting the exam, has doubled the centres as compared to last time to around 1,000.

According to the official notification, the advance intimation for the allotment of exam city for UGC NET December 2022 (Phase V, 9 subjects), which is scheduled to be conducted between 13th of March and 15th of March 2023 has been activated. The applicants are required to check / download their Examination City Intimation Slip of UGC NET December 2022, Phase -V from the official website by using their application number and date of birth. 
Australian varsities interested in setting up campuses in India: UGC

Two Australian universities have already decided to set up their campuses at the GIFT CITY in Gujarat. Now campuses of Australian universities might come up outside Gujarat as well. These proposals were discussed during a meeting between the Australian Education Minister and UGC officials here on Thursday. Jason Clare, Minister of Education, Australia, and Barry O'Farrell, Australian High Commissioner to India, visited the UGC office on Thursday.
