Trump Criticizes Appearance of Indian-American NYC Mayoral Candidate

U.S. President Donald Trump responded sharply to Indian-origin leftist Zohran Mamdani's Democratic mayoral primary victory in New York City, terming him a "100 per cent Communist Lunatic."

On his Truth Social site, Trump announced, "It's finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor. We've had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous."

Going after Mamdani personally, Trump, 78, targeted the 33-year-old assemblyman's looks, brains, and political base. "Looks TERRIBLE, his voice is annoying, not very smart, he's got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, supporting him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin' Chuck Schumer, is kneeling over him. Yes, this is a great moment in the History of our Country!", he added.

In a second tweet, Trump seemed to jokingly suggest Democrats put up "Low IQ Candidate, Jasmine Crockett, for President" in order to turn their fortunes around. He also suggested appointing "AOC+3" — his handle for Ocasio-Cortez and her liberal cohorts — to the top Cabinet positions.

Zohran Mamdani, son of Indian-American director Mira Nair and Ugandan-born Indian Marxist academic Mahmood Mamdani, won the Democratic primary after Cuomo withdrew. With about 90% of the votes counted, Mamdani took 43.5% of the vote. If he succeeds in winning the general election, he would be New York City's first Muslim mayor.

Mamdani, now a Queens state assemblyman, has the backing of the Democratic Socialists of America. His far-left connections have generated anxiety among centrist Democrats who contend that such relationships may turn off wider segments of voters. His vocal position on Palestine — including claims that Israel is engaging in "genocide" — has made him a lightning rod for criticism from the likes of Trump.

Among Mamdani’s most high-profile supporters are two prominent figures frequently criticized by Trump: progressive Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Known for bold policies, Mamdani has proposed a rent freeze across the city, fare-free buses, and universal childcare. In a metropolis where housing costs are soaring — with three-bedroom apartments fetching up to $6,000 monthly — these ideas have resonated with a significant portion of the electorate.
