After the success of its first run, Prime Video has formally commissioned a second season of its original reality show The Traitors, led by renowned filmmaker Karan Johar.
Based on the internationally successful format by IDTV, which won both BAFTA and Emmy awards, The Traitors premiered on June 12 in India. The show is being produced by BBC Studios India Productions in association with All3Media International.
The high-stakes series features 20 familiar faces from varied professions who engage in a thrilling game of lies, teammates, and tactics, all for a chance at a large cash prize and the honor of being crowned the greatest traitor—or loyalist.
In a release from Prime Video, the initial season has resonated heavily with audiences, and it received praise for its suspenseful setup, surprising turns, and high-stakes gameplay.
"'The Traitors' has set off a storm of fan reaction and speculation on social media, and is already a pop culture phenomenon," the platform explained. "Enhancing Prime Video's unscripted offerings, 'The Traitors' has been viewed by audiences in 88% of India's pin codes."
Prime Video India's Director and Head of Originals Nikhil Madhok highlighted the impact of the show and its stand-out position in the streaming service's expanding unscripted library.
"With its unique blend of tension, strategy and emotional truth, given life by our versatile host, Karan Johar and a magnificent line up of players who have played with their A-game on the show, the series has turned out to be a true break-through," Madhok added.
"As we build an unscripted slate bold and diverse at Prime Video, 'The Traitors' is a marquee title that breaks the mold of the reality genre. Encouraged by the phenomenal response, we're excited to start development on Season Two and elevate the experience further."
Season one had an interesting and vibrant cast of characters, with Anshula Kapoor, Apoorva, Ashish Vidyarthi, Elnaaz Nourouzi, Harsh Gujral, Jannat Zubair, Janvi Gaur, Jasmin Bhasin, Karan Kundrra, Lakshmi Manchu, Maheep Kapoor, Mukesh Chhabra, Nikita Luther, Purav Jha, Raftaar, Raj Kundra, Sahil Salathia, Sudhanshu Pandey, Sufi Motiwala, and Uorfi Javed.
