Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova emphasized that Russia will closely monitor Sweden's actions after its NATO membership and formulate its response accordingly. "We will closely observe Sweden's actions within the aggressive military bloc, assess its implementation of membership in practice, and develop our response strategy accordingly," she stated on Wednesday.
Zakharova highlighted that Moscow will decide on the appropriate measures, including military-technical ones, to address threats to Russia's national security, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
She noted that Sweden's historical policy of non-alignment was a crucial factor in maintaining stability in Northern Europe. However, Zakharova expressed concern that Sweden's NATO membership would undermine its sovereignty further.
On Monday, Hungarian lawmakers approved a bill endorsing Sweden's NATO accession, paving the way for the country's entry into the military alliance.
