"We had a Prime Minister who was unequivocal – the welfare of the Indian consumer takes precedence. Some may view our stance as assertive. I took a firm stand because I serve in a government led by a strong Prime Minister," remarked the minister.

Jaishankar previously quipped that India's oil purchases are minimal compared to Europe's daily consumption, dismissing concerns over New Delhi's acquisition of Russian oil. He reiterated India's amicable relationship with Russia, affirming that Moscow has never compromised Indian interests.
