German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius firmly rejected the idea of deploying German ground troops to Ukraine, countering French President Emmanuel Macron's suggestion made a day earlier. Pistorius emphasized that "Boots on the ground is not an option for the Federal Republic of Germany," as quoted by a report from Xinhua news agency after his meeting with Austrian Defence Minister Klaudia Tanner in Vienna on Tuesday.

Macron had addressed European leaders during a gathering on Monday, stating that while there was no official consensus among European nations, the prospect of sending Western troops to Ukraine "should not be ruled out."
