The terror strike in Pahalgam took place on Tuesday in the Baisaran meadow of Anantnag district, and it triggered a wave of anger and protests throughout India. Politicians and people have called for stern action against Pakistan after the attack.

It has been responded to by a series of diplomatic actions taken by the Indian government. They include the closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals—giving them a 40-hour window to depart—and a scaling down of staff at diplomatic missions in both countries.

In addition, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, which was signed in 1960, as part of its reaction to the deadly attack in Pahalgam.
