"The incitement channel Al Jazeera will be shutting down in Israel," he said. "I thank the Minister of Communications, Shlomo Karhi, for his efforts in this matter."

Netanyahu explained earlier that the channel, based in Qatar, had been inciting violence and was threatening the security of the nation after the October 7 attack on IDF soldiers.

"The extremist network Al Jazeera will no longer have a platform in Israel. I am committed to promptly implementing the new legislation to end the channel's activities. I thank the efforts behind the legislation, led by Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi, with the support of coalition members led by coalition chairman Ofir Katz," Netanyahu said on April 1. The Israeli Parliament passed a law targeted at foreign media content that had damaged the country's national security.

Karhi, on Sunday, said the directives for Al Jazeera will take effect without delay. He said that he signed the directives against the Qatari network and that he has been leading a months-long fight to ensure that no longer operates within Israel.

"Our directives will take effect without delay. There has been enough time and wasted legalism in our path to finally put an end to the incitement machinery of Al Jazeera, which threatens the country's security. I have been fighting for months and I will keep fighting so that they will never again operate in Israel," Karhi said.
