U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday claimed he could negotiate peace between Iran and Israel just as he says he has done for other warring countries.
Repeating an earlier comment, Trump stated he was instrumental in stopping last month's military clash between India and Pakistan through the power of commerce.
In a post posted on his social media site, Truth Social, Trump noted that "many calls and meetings are now happening" to allow for a possible deal between Iran and Israel.
Iran and Israel need to come to an agreement, and will come to an agreement, as I brought India and Pakistan to an agreement, there by employing TRADE with the United States to instill reason, harmony, and sanity into the negotiations with two great leaders who were able to make a decision rapidly and STOP!" he asserted.
But Indian authorities have asserted that the accord between India and Pakistan, achieved on May 10 after four days of cross-border missile and drone exchanges, was the outcome of military-level direct talks, unmediated by any foreign agency.
The tensions between Iran and Israel today increased dramatically with Israel hitting Iranian military, missile, and nuclear targets early Friday in targeted attacks. Iran retaliated by firing missiles that struck buildings in Tel Aviv, leading Israel to promise a more intense response.
Trump, in his post on Truth Social, referenced a series of global conflicts he argues were solved while he was in power. Citing the Balkans, he said that Serbia-Kosovo tensions, which were on the brink of blowing into war, were avoided under his watch.
I put a stop to it (Biden has damaged Egypt's chances for the long term with some very dumb moves, but I will restore it, again!)," he wrote. He also mentioned his role in the Egyptian-Ethiopian conflict over the Nile River and the building of an enormous dam, writing, "There is peace at least for the moment, thanks to my intervention, and it will remain that way!"
Trump stated, "Likewise, we will have PEACE, soon, between Israel and Iran! Many calls and meetings now taking place. I do a lot, and never get credit for anything, but that's OK, the PEOPLE understand. MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!
Meanwhile, back home in India, tensions with Pakistan escalated after a fatal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22 that resulted in 26 civilian fatalities. India retaliated by initiating Operation Sindoor, striking at terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
On May 10, the two nations came to an understanding to stop hostilities, with Indian sources affirming that the ceasefire was agreed between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both sides. The arrangement entailed stopping all military activities on land, air, and sea forthwith. Indian officials were categorical that there was no third party involved in the decision.
Nonetheless, Trump still insists that America brokered the ceasefire, a statement he has made over a dozen times. As he claims, Washington persuaded the two nuclear-weapon states to cease hostilities by promising them better trade relations as a carrot.
He said that the U.S. informed the two nuclear neighbors that it would have "a lot of trade" with them if they stopped fighting.
