FBI Director Kash Patel has asserted that "justice will be done" as Harpreet Singh, a terrorist turned gangster, has been arrested in the United States. Singh, who uses the nicknames Happy Passia and Jora, has been associated with numerous terror attacks in Punjab and is accused of working with Pakistan's ISI and the Khalistani organization Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
He was taken into custody on April 18 by the FBI and the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Enforcement and Removal Operations in Sacramento.
Patel posted to X announcing Singh's capture, saying, "CAPTURED: HARPREET SINGH, a member of an alleged foreign terrorist gang here illegally in the United States, who we believe was involved in plotting several attacks on police stations both here in India and the United States. @FBISacramento carried out the investigation, working in conjunction with our partners locally as well as in India."
He also commended the efforts of the team with the words, "Excellent work from all, and justice will be done. The FBI will keep finding those who spread violence — wherever they are."
Singh has been said to have collaborated with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the BKI. Singh evaded arrest through the use of burner phones that cannot be traced and encrypted communications apps, as noted by the FBI, highlighting the importance of global cooperation in tracking those who become a global security menace.
In January, India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) put a reward of Rs 5 lakh on information leading to Singh's arrest, in relation to a grenade attack on a Chandigarh house. Singh is from Ajnala tehsil in Punjab and is still a fugitive in the case related to the October 1, 2024, grenade attack on a house in Chandigarh's Sector 10/D.
