The release date of the much-awaited film Mardaani 3, featuring Rani Mukerji in a lead character, has been confirmed. The movie will release on February 27, 2026.
In a surprise announcement on social media this Monday, the directors announced that Mardaani 3 will come out on the festive period of Holi, which is celebrated on March 4, 2026.
Holi, a festival for the victory of good over evil, is also something that resonates with the theme of the film of a brutal, intense fight between the righteous Shivani and the dark forces of evil.
Directed by Yash Raj Films, the Mardaani series is among the best-performing solo female-starring series in Bollywood, whose origin goes back more than a decade. The series is greatly acclaimed for its thrilling storyline and has attracted a passionate fan base, which made it a cult among cinema lovers.
In Mardaani 3, Rani Mukerji will again be playing the gutsy and persistent cop, Shivani Shivaji Roy, who is determined to catch justice.
Rani had earlier mentioned that the movie was a "dark, deadly, and brutal" thriller, which has left everyone in huge anticipation among the fans and netizens.
The original Mardaani movie, released in 2014 and directed by Pradeep Sarkar, addressed the topic of human trafficking. The second installment, Mardaani 2, released in 2019, centered around a spine-chilling psychopath, rapist, and killer, and was directed by Gopi Puthran, who also penned the script for the first film.
The franchise has been famous for producing frightening villains, with the title character being a representation of the ongoing war between good and evil.
