Sonia Gandhi to travel abroad for medical check-ups

"Congress President Sonia Gandhi will be traveling abroad for medical checkups, she will also visit her ailing mother, before she returns to Delhi," party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a statement. "Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be travelling with the Congress President," it added. However, the scheduled rally on September 4 will be addressed by Rahul Gandhi.

In a statement on Monday she said, "Congress will oppose the wrong statements for political benefits and any attempt to question great national leaders like Gandhi-Nehru-Patel-Azad on the basis of incorrect facts." She said that historical facts are being distorted and India has achieved a lot in the last 75 years and democracy has been strengthened. She blamed that the present self-centred government is adamant about proving insignificant the great sacrifices of freedom fighters and this could not be accepted.

Apparently, Congress is contemplating other names as well. However, sources said that former party President Rahul Gandhi has lined up a series of meeting with state units. He also plans to visit every district in the country in the run-up to the general elections. The plan is yet to be finalised. Besides Rahul Gandhi, another name doing rounds is Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. It is being said that he is not keen on leaving the state.
Sonia Gandhi tests positive for Covid again

"Congress President Smt Sonia Gandhi has tested positive for Covid-19 today. She will remain in isolation as per Govt. protocol," informed party's general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh in a tweet. Earlier, she had tested positive for the virus in June. On Wednesday, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also announced that she had tested positive for Covid infection, for the second time in three months.

National Herald case: Kharge assists ED officials in search operation
