"Congress President Sonia Gandhi will be traveling abroad for medical checkups, she will also visit her ailing mother, before she returns to Delhi," party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a statement. "Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be travelling with the Congress President," it added. However, the scheduled rally on September 4 will be addressed by Rahul Gandhi.

This the first visit of Congress President after Murmu was elected as President. A tweet run by the President's Secretariat said, "President, Indian National Congress Sonia Gandhi called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan."

In a statement on Monday she said, "Congress will oppose the wrong statements for political benefits and any attempt to question great national leaders like Gandhi-Nehru-Patel-Azad on the basis of incorrect facts." She said that historical facts are being distorted and India has achieved a lot in the last 75 years and democracy has been strengthened. She blamed that the present self-centred government is adamant about proving insignificant the great sacrifices of freedom fighters and this could not be accepted.

Apparently, Congress is contemplating other names as well. However, sources said that former party President Rahul Gandhi has lined up a series of meeting with state units. He also plans to visit every district in the country in the run-up to the general elections. The plan is yet to be finalised. Besides Rahul Gandhi, another name doing rounds is Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. It is being said that he is not keen on leaving the state.

"Congress President Smt Sonia Gandhi has tested positive for Covid-19 today. She will remain in isolation as per Govt. protocol," informed party's general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh in a tweet. Earlier, she had tested positive for the virus in June. On Wednesday, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also announced that she had tested positive for Covid infection, for the second time in three months.

Though the full details of the phone call, which happened on Sunday night, are not officially known, sources said that the two leaders discussed the formation of a new government in Bihar. The effect of the telephonic conversation was visible in Patna as Congress' state president Madan Mohan Jha and party legislature leader Ajit Sharma called a meeting of its legislators in Sadakat Ashram to discuss the future course of action.

Slamming interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi over the National Herald case, former Union minister and senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy accused the Gandhi family of being involved in money laundering. Speaking exclusively with IANS, Swamy said that a jail term is certain for both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on charges of money laundering in connection with the National Herald case. Delving on a wide range of issues, Swamy talked about Ram Setu, and expressed concerns over the country's current economic condition, among others.

On Thursday, a team of top officials of the ED reached the office of Young Indian (YI) to conduct the search operation. The ED has also opened the office, which was temporarily sealed. Kharge was present at the YI office after he decided to assist the ED officials in search operations. On Wednesday, the ED officials had seized the YI office saying no one was assisting them.

YI was just incorporated when Dotex gave it this loan and this has raised questions. Recently when Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi were grilled by the ED officials, both were asked about Dotex. The Gandhis were asked about several transactions by Dotex. The firm is reportedly situated at 5, Lower Rawdon Street in Sreepally in Ballygunge, Kolkata, in a residential apartment named Aakash Deep.
