According to sources, Priyanka told the ED officials that since her mother does not keep well, she takes care of the medicines and hence her presence is required. She requested the ED officials to allow her to be present at the questioning room. Considering the Congress president's health condition, the ED has agreed to let Priyanka be around her mother but in a separate room.

In Lok Sabha, the notice was given by Gaurav Gogoi and Manickam Tagore. Congress MP K.C. Venugopal gave a suspension of business notice in the Rajya Sabha, citing the "misuse of central agencies in the country which includes the ED, CBI and I-T department to target political leaders by the ruling party." In a joint move, the floor leaders of the opposition will also meet to chalk out an agenda regarding the session.

The source said that Sonia Gandhi faces some problems while speaking due to post-Covid issues. "She has a problem due to the disease. We will see how to proceed further," said the source. Due to her health issues, Sonia Gandhi was unable to join the probe earlier and had sought postponements earlier. As per the scheduled date, she has to appear before the ED on Thursday.

Paramilitary forces have been deployed in nearby areas to avoid any kind of untoward incidents. The police have also deployed extra teams to keep an eye on those visiting the nearby areas and lanes. Sonia Gandhi has been called to join the investigation in connection with the National Herald case. Earlier, she was summoned twice by the ED, but had sought postponement on health grounds.

Sonia Gandhi's questioning, which was scheduled to take place on June 23, was postponed at her request as she cited her health conditions. Earlier Rahul Gandhi had said that the late Motilal Vora was looking after all the affairs related to Young India (YI). Vora held a 12 per cent stake in YI whereas Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi held 76 percent stake.

Congress sources said that the Gandhi family performs 'Jalabhishek' to Lord Shiva on the first Monday of Sawan. At the same time, the family has also been offering prayers for many decades. However, the family refrains from giving the picture of worship to the media, as they want to keep it personal and religion is a matter of faith for them.

Sonia Gandhi has been asked to join the probe in mid July by the ED. Her questioning, which was scheduled on June 23, was postponed on health grounds. "We have to ask about her role in the deal between Young India and Associated Journal Ltd (AJL)," the sources said. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had said that late Motilal Vora was looking after these affairs.

She was to be questioned on June 23. As the ED has accepted her request, now she will be given a new date to get her statement recorded. In coming days the ED will decide the next summon to the Congress president. "She was suffering with Covid complications and was not fit for the questioning," said a source. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi was questioned for about 51 hours in five days in the same case.

On Sunday, party General Secretary Randeep Surjewala tweeted: "Congress President Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Ganga Ram Hospital today owing to Covid-related issues. She is stable and will be kept at the hospital for observation. We thank all the Congressmen & women as also all well wishers for their concern and good wishes."
