Sonia Gandhi again summoned by ED in National Herald case

The Congress chief was summoned on June 8 but she wrote to the ED informing that she had Covid-19 and hence, was unable to join the probe. Her son and former party chief Rahul Gandhi was summoned on June 2 but he couldn't join the probe too as he was abroad. The ED had then issued a second notice to him to join the probe on June 13.

Her son and former party chief Rahul Gandhi has been asked to appear before the the law enforcement agency on June 13 after he sought exemption on an earlier date. The ED had summoned the Gandhis to join the investigation in a money laundering case relating to the National Herald newspaper and record their statements on June 8.

Ahead of the meeting, party interim president Sonia Gandhi will meet all the convenors of the sub-groups to get a draft proposal prepared by the committees. But the post fell vacant in February 2021, after Patole resigned and was subsequently appointed president of the state Congress. Patole's resignation had angered the Shiv Sena and NCP, allies of the Congress in the MVA, as they had not been consulted about the move. Since then the matter has not been resolved.

On Thursday, she met former minister Jagdish Tytler and Jharkhand State President Rajesh Thakur. In the last two days, the party has appointed state presidents in Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. There are talks of replacing other state presidents and galvanising the state units. While Jharkhand state president was appointed less than a year ago, Delhi needs deliberations as the party wants to activate the state unit ahead of the Municipal elections.
Sonia to form Empowered Action Group 2024; No clarity on PK

The development follows a report submitted by an eight-member committee on April 21. According to sources, the group will be a window for political strategist Prashant Kishor, known as PK in political circles, to work for the party till 2024 elections but there is no official word on it.
