On the eve of CWC meeting, beginning in Hyderabad on Saturday, the former Congress president said, "We had made a promise to the people of Telangana. We have fulfilled that promise.

“I am writing to request you to take advantage of your majority in the Lok Sabha to now get the Women’s Reservation Bill passed in the lower house as well,” Sonia Gandhi wrote, assuring Congress’ support and adding that this bill would be a significant step in the direction of women empowerment.

Amid high pitched battle of arguments and counter arguments between treasury benches and the opposition, Sonia Gandhi was seen egging on her MPs amid the chaos, which ensued during speeches of Gandhi and Irani.

According to the sources, Siddaramaiah has the backing of more than 80 MLAs. The party high command, which had clarified from the beginning of making the candiddate who had the support of MLAs as the Chief Minister, is now in a difficult position as Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar is also vouching for the post.

In the notice to the Congress chief, the EC said: "I am directed to refer to a complaint dated May 8, 2023 submitted by the leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party, namely, Bhupender Yadav, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Tarun Chugh, Anil Baluni and Om Pathak to the Commission regarding a tweet which appeared on the official Twitter handle of the Congress on May 6, 2023 at 09:46 PM."
