No-confidence motion: Rahul Gandhi may initiate discussion in LS today, PM likely to reply on Aug 10

According to Parliament sources, the discussion on the no-confidence motion is expected to begin once it is moved on August 8, and is likely to continue throughout the next two days, that is, August 9 and 10.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to reply to the discussion on the motion on August 10.

In an order issued by the Lok Sabha secretariat on Monday, it was informed that in view of the Supreme Court order dated August 4, Gandhi's disqualification, which was ordered on March 24 this year, stands withdrawn. The Supreme Court on August 4 had stayed Gandhi's conviction in a defamation case against him.

Sources aware of the development said that after a day-long discussion among the opposition parties, it was decided that motion will be brought on Wednesday in the lower house. The Congress has also issued a whip to all its MPs in Lok Sabha to be present in the house from the commencement till its adjournment as “very important issues will be taken up for discussion in Lok Sabha tomorrow, i.e. July 26.”

BJP President J.P. Nadda has appointed former Union Minister D Purandeshwari as the new state President of Andhra Pradesh. Purandeswari, who had joined the BJP in 2014, is daughter of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder N. T. Rama Rao. She replaced Somu Veerraju.
