Mandya district holds significant importance as it is considered a stronghold of the Vokkaliga community, traditionally dominated by the Deve Gowda family and the JD(S). However, the dynamics shifted during the 2023 Assembly elections when Deputy CM Shivakumar managed to sway the community's support towards the Congress.

Sources indicate that the victim underwent a medical examination, and her statement is expected to be recorded soon. The mother of a minor girl initiated the case of alleged sexual misconduct against Yediyurappa at the Sadashivanagar police station in Bengaluru.

Subsequent to the arrests, the Karnataka branch of the BJP called for the resignation of Naseer Hussain.

The incident has spurred a political clash, with the opposition BJP-JD(S) challenging the Congress government over the removal of the "Hanuman Dhwaja." Police had to resort to mild lathi charge on Sunday to control the agitated crowd, raising the Tricolour in place of the saffron flag.

While the CM Siddaramaiah-led state cabinet retracted consent for a CBI inquiry against Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar in a DA case, signs of internal strife emerged within the grand old party.
