According to the report, President Biden praised PM Modi's efforts to combat the pandemic during a closed session of the Quad Summit in Tokyo. He also noted that Modi's success has shown the world that democracies can deliver better results and busted the myth that autocracies like China and Russia can handle the rapidly changing world better because their leadership can take and implement decisions without facing lengthy democratic processes, the official said.

Biden "will continue to be briefed regularly as information becomes available", Xinhua news agency reported, citing a tweet by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. "His prayers are with the families impacted by this awful event, and he will speak this evening when he arrives back at the White House," Jean-Pierre announced.

Moon left office on May 9 after serving a five-year term. Biden was quoted as calling Moon a "good friend" and thanking him for making efforts to strengthen their alliance, while referring to their summit in Washington last year.

Federal aid can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help local residents and business owners recover from the damage of the wildfires, said the statement.
