President Biden praises PM Modi for successfully handling Covid pandemic: Report

According to the report, President Biden praised PM Modi's efforts to combat the pandemic during a closed session of the Quad Summit in Tokyo. He also noted that Modi's success has shown the world that democracies can deliver better results and busted the myth that autocracies like China and Russia can handle the rapidly changing world better because their leadership can take and implement decisions without facing lengthy democratic processes, the official said.

Biden and Moon held the phone talks for about 10 minutes on Saturday evening, Yonhap News Agency quoted to Rep. Yun Kun-young of the Democratic Party as saying. Moon left office on May 9 after serving a five-year term. Biden was quoted as calling Moon a "good friend" and thanking him for making efforts to strengthen their alliance, while referring to their summit in Washington last year.

The toll stands at 995,747, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the top US government health agency that keeps an official track of Covid-19 numbers in the US.

"A major disaster exists in the State of New Mexico," Xinhua news agency quoted the White House as saying in a statement late Wednesday. Federal aid can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help local residents and business owners recover from the damage of the wildfires, said the statement.
