Calls for a robust response from the Republicans intensified after former President Donald Trump, a leading 2024 GOP candidate, criticized Biden's foreign policy, citing instances like the unfreezing of $6 billion in Iranian oil revenues last year. Trump alleged that these funds were being misused for military purposes, while Biden maintained that there were checks and balances in place.

During a statement, President Biden assured, "Have no doubt, we will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner (of) our choosing."
