President Joe Biden has reaffirmed the unwavering support of the United States for Israel's security while emphasizing the imperative of containing the conflict to prevent its escalation.
During a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani at the Oval Office in the White House, Biden expressed, "The United States is dedicated to ensuring Israel's security. We stand firm in our pursuit of a ceasefire that secures the safe return of hostages and prevents the conflict from spreading any further than it already has."
These remarks mark Biden's first public commentary since Iran initiated a significant retaliatory strike against Israel over the weekend, during which the majority of missiles and drones deployed were intercepted, largely due to efforts from Israeli and US forces, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
The Biden administration has been actively engaged in efforts to avert a broader regional conflict that could ensue from the Iranian attack and any potential retaliatory measures from Israel.
"We are equally committed to safeguarding the well-being of our personnel and allies in the region, including Iraq," Biden affirmed.
Highlighting the crucial nature of the partnership between Iraq and the US, Biden underscored, "The collaboration between Iraq and the United States is paramount in ensuring regional stability and security."
