Fresh out of the second Republican debate this week, Haley led the sitting president by two points -- 40 per cent to 38 per cent in the latest poll by JL Partners for the Daily Mail, which surveyed 1,000 likely voters from September 15 to 20.

The government will shut down at 12.01 a.m. Eastern Time Sunday if Congress fails to pass legislation to renew funding by the deadline. 

Republicans have accused Biden of trading on the power of his office when he was Vice President to help his son Hunter Biden secure lucrative foreign business deals, and of benefiting personally from the "corruption". McCarthy on September 12 requested to open an impeachment inquiry into the President.

Using the acronym for former President Donald Trump’s political movement, "Make America Great Again", Biden went on to say that "there’s no question that today’s Republican Party is driven and intimidated by MAGA Republican extremists", CNN reported. “Their extreme agenda, if carried out, would fundamentally alter the institutions of American democracy as we know it.”

With just three days to go for the closure from today and the US Treasury and funded agencies going into emergency preparedness, Biden said on Wednesday that he does not believe a government shutdown is "inevitable".  "I don't think anything is inevitable in politics," Biden said when pressed on the likelihood of a shutdown by reporters.

“Yesterday (Monday) around 8 p.m., a Secret Service Uniformed Division police officer came in contact with a First Family pet and was bitten. The officer was treated by medical personnel on complex,” USSS chief of communications Anthony Guglielmi told CNN on Tuesday.

"You made a lot of sacrifice. You gave up a lot when the companies were in trouble. Now, they're doing incredibly well... You should be doing incredibly well, too," Biden said on Tuesday amid the applause from the striking workers.

“I think that the text of that summit was objective, not only when it comes to Ukraine, which is only mentioned once but it was objective about the geopolitical situation as a whole,” he said on Saturday at a news conference here.

The UAW on Friday invited Biden to join the picket line in the union's strike against three Detroit automakers, thus putting the White House on the spot in an escalating dispute.

Biden announced the package during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Washington on Thursday.
