Two Independent Legislators Extend Support to BJP in Haryana

Defying all exit polls, the BJP on Tuesday crossed the majority mark in the Haryana Assembly by winning 48 seats, a significant rise from the 40 seats secured in 2019 in the 90-member Assembly. The Congress secured 37 seats, while Independents won three.

Independents were leading on four seats, and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the BSP were ahead in one seat each. Aam Aadmi Party and INLD's offshoot, Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), were yet to get off the mark.

The BJP, with its overwhelming majority, is set to get the seat unopposed as the flatfeet Congress has refused to field a candidate for the by-election. The seat had fallen vacant when Deepender Singh Hooda was elected to the Lok Sabha from Rohtak in June. The term of the Rajya Sabha seat is till April 9, 2026.

Agarwal suggested that youngsters attaining the age of 18 years by July 1 and whose names are not in the voter list may contact their BLO to enroll themselves. As per the revised electoral roll, the state will have 2,03,27,631 voters, including 1,08,19,021 male, 95,08,155 female and 455 third gender voters. Of them, 4,82,896 are between the age group of 18 to 19, 1,49,387 are persons with disability and 2,42,818 are above 85 years. Further, 9,554 voters are more than 100 years old and 20 to 29-year category comprises 41,52,806 voters.

The seat projection in Maharashtra was 95-105 for the BJP. Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena was projected to garner 19-24 seats, Ajit Pawar-led NCP 7-12.
