The ruling BJP in Haryana on Tuesday crossed the majority mark of 46 in the Assembly by leading on 49 seats and maintained its lead, while the Congress was on 35, as per the latest trends available on the Election Commission website.
Independents were leading on four seats, and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the BSP were ahead in one seat each. Aam Aadmi Party and INLD's offshoot, Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), were yet to get off the mark.
The leading Independents are:
Savitri Jindal from Hisar,
Rakesh June from Bahadurgarh,
Chitra Sarwara from Ambala Cantt,
Devendra Kadian from Ganaur.
10 rounds of counting have been conducted, and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini (BJP) has emerged as the winner of Ladwa by a margin of 12,423 votes. This is followed by Mewa Singh from Congress and Independent Vikram Singh Cheema.
According to the counting after 10 rounds for Julana constituency, Olympic wrestler-turned-politician Vinesh Phogat took a lead with 45,293 votes. Their nearest contender Yogesh Kumar, from the BJP, had gained 41,151 votes.
Dushyant Chautala of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) is at the sixth position in the Uchana Kalan constituency with 5,099 votes after nine rounds of counting. The Congress candidate Brijendra Singh from this seat leads with 28,547 votes.
Arjun of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) has taken a significant lead over his granduncle and Independent candidate Ranjit Chautala with an edge of 6,161 votes in the Rania seat.
BJP candidate Gian Chand Gupta, who is the outgoing speaker of legislative assembly, has won the election with a 2,034 vote margin till round seven. He has polled 26,539 votes, while his Congress rival Chander Mohan has received 24,505.
In the Karnal assembly constituency, it is BJP's Jagmohan Anand who holds an upper hand with 32,052 votes. Aam Aadmi Party's Sunit Bindal stands in the third position with 669 votes. Sumita Virk of the Congress, though, has garnered 18,970 votes.
Congress MP Kumari Selja was sanguine and said, "Hold your horses. Congress will form the government with an overwhelming majority.".
Meanwhile, Union Minister and BJP's Haryana in-charge, Dharmendra Pradhan, landed up at the national capital residence of former chief minister and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, as the party "eyes victory in the state".
