India on Saturday said it has exercised restraint in countering unabated provocations and escalation moves by Pakistan along the border, while also protecting its territory through targeted military action.
Addressing a media briefing on 'Operation Sindoor', Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri was accompanied by Indian Army Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Indian Air Force Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, as they presented the updates and India's stance on the current hostilities.
Pakistani actions have continued to rise with provocation in the last two to three days. In response, India has defended and responded in a calibrated manner to these provocations and increases by the Pakistani side. We witnessed a repeat of these provocative and escalatory factors earlier this morning," Misri said.
Indian Army has confirmed that multiple armed drones by Pakistan were released over Khasa Cantt in Amritsar on Saturday morning, which were successfully engaged and neutralized by air defense units.
Pakistan's brazen provocation with drone attacks and other ordnance continues along our Western borders. In one such incident, today at around 5 a.m., several enemy armed drones were seen flying over Khasa Cantt, Amritsar. The hostile drones were immediately engaged and neutralized," a release from the Indian Army read.
Condemning the aggression, the Army further stated, "Pakistan's naked attempt to breach India's sovereignty and put civilians at risk is unacceptable. The Indian Army will foil enemy plans."
In a retaliatory operation later that evening, the Border Security Force (BSF) carried out a pinpoint attack on a Pakistani outpost and a suspected terrorist launch site in Looni, District Sialkot—across India's Akhnoor sector—where drone attacks on Indian territory were suspected to have been launched.
On 9 May 2025, around 2100 hrs, Pakistan resorted to unprovoked firing on BSF posts in the Jammu Sector. BSF retaliated in a proportionate manner, inflicting extensive damage to the posts and properties of the Pakistan Rangers along the International Boundary," stated the BSF in a statement.
The BSF further stated that the terrorist infrastructure at Looni was "completely destroyed," reiterating India's firm commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty.
Meanwhile, late on Friday evening, a drone strike near Ferozepur town in Punjab injured three civilians, one of them a woman, demonstrating the ongoing threat to civilian populations.
Residents in some areas of Jammu and Kashmir, such as Srinagar and the Akhnoor area, heard loud explosions early on Saturday, which spread panic and fear. Numerous morning walkers rushed back home in the midst of the chaos.
During the night, the Pakistani Army conducted mortar shelling along the Poonch and Rajouri districts and inflicted major destruction on civilian installations and further inflamed the tensions.
The Defence Ministry once again made it clear that 26 UAV sightings, among them a few believed to be weapons-carrying, have been reported over the International Border and the LoC. Areas that have been affected are Baramulla, Srinagar, Avantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Ferozpur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Kuarbet, and Lakhi Nala.
