Petrol, diesel prices remain unchanged on Saturday

Accordingly, in the national capital, diesel continues to be sold for Rs 89.27 per litre. Diesel was priced at Rs 89.87 a litre on Tuesday but came down to current level in three successive price cuts of 20 paisa each between Wednesday and Friday. Unlike diesel, petrol prices have not be changed by OMCs for past 35 days and the fuel continues to be priced at Rs 101.84 a litre in Delhi, the same price level that was reached on July 17.

In the national capital, diesel was sold for Rs 89.27 per litre, 20 paise lower than the previous level. Petrol price was at Rs 101.84 per litre. Similarly, in Mumbai, diesel price also fell 20 paise to Rs 96.84 a litre, while petrol was unchanged at Rs 107.83 per litre. The pump prices of auto fuels have been static since July 18.

Puri blamed the previous Congress government's decisions for the current increase in prices of petroleum products. Addressing a press conference at the BJP's Delhi unit office on the third day of 'Jan Ashirwad Yatra', Puri said, "We are sensitive towards it (prices of petroleum products) and are taking all the possible steps including blending of ethanol which the government will increase to 20 per cent.

Petrol demand above pre-Covid levels, diesel just a fraction behind

While sales of petrol has already crossed pre-Covid levels more than a month ago, diesel sales has begun inching up and is just 8 per cent short of touching pre-Covid levels as of August 15. State-owned fuel retailers have sold 0.94 million tonnes (mt) of petrol between August 1-15, 2021. This is 9.4 per cent increase over dales seen in same period of previous year and 3.7 per cent above 0.95 mt sales in first half of August, 2019.
