Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday took swipe at Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s meeting with the Pakistani High Commissioner, as well as his parliamentary questions on national security.
Chief Minister Sarma posted on X (formerly Twitter), “After meeting with Pakistan’s then-Ambassador Md Abdul Basit (2014-17), the Hon’ble MP began raising questions in Parliament that could have led to the disclosure of classified information regarding India’s nuclear program. The sensitivity of these inquiries, coupled with their timing, raises critical concerns about the underlying motives and broader ramifications.”
Moreover, the Chief Minister contended that during the time when the Indian government stridently countered Abdul Basit’s position, Gogoi stopped attempting to delve into defense-related questions in Lok Sabha.
CM Sarma wrote on X: “Intriguingly, after India adopted a tough approach toward Abdul Basit’s actions, the Hon’ble MP’s curiosity regarding defense and nuclear matters significantly diminished—an aspect that merits deeper examination,”
He further noted that following the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, where the inadequacy of India’s coastal security was out in the open, Gogoi sought specific information from Parliament on the coastal radar stations’ details such as their specifications and so on.
