Aya Nagar: PM 2.5 at 416 and PM 10 at 440, both in the 'severe' category, while CO was at 126 in the 'moderate' category, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

In response to the deteriorating air quality, schools were shut down, and non-essential construction activities were prohibited.

The ban encompasses a comprehensive range of activities, including boring, drilling, excavation, and stuffing, at construction and demolition sites.

On Monday, Hussain led the campaign 'Red Light On, Gaadi Off' at Chandgi Ram Akhara, the red light near ISBT Kashmere Gate to urge people to switch their vehicles off at traffic signals.

According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the overall air quality of Delhi was recorded at 304. However, the air quality of the city is likely to improve from Tuesday onwards. Both the major pollutants PM 2.5 and PM 10 were recorded at 304 in the very poor category and 183 at moderate category in the city on Monday.

However, on the environment front, the environmentalists have forecast a grim scenario as they see 2023 approaching with a serious threat for West Bengal. As per them, the pollution levels in Kolkata and some other district towns might reach worsening levels with the likelihood of average air quality index (AQI) in the state capital surpassing that of New Delhi.

Even the brightest days in Delhi-NCR during the first half of December have kept air quality in the 'poor' category. As stubble burning subsided across the northwestern states of Punjab and Haryana after the sowing of the Rabi crop, the burden of high air pollution levels rests on emissions from sources like industrial activities, transport, regional pollution corridors and prevailing weather conditions.

The concentration of both PM 2.5 and PM 10 in the environment was recorded at 321 and 196 respectively under "very poor" and "moderate" category respectively on Tuesday.

The concentration of both PM 2.5 and PM 10 in the environment was recorded at 340 and 204 respectively under "very poor" and "poor category" respectively.

According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the concentration of both PM 2.5 and PM 10 in the environment was recorded at 313 and 202 (moderate), respectively. As per the SAFAR forecast, the city's air quality will further deteriorate on Tuesday with AQI escalating to 324 .
